How To Buy My Rectangles Why buy fine art photography? Some buy for the investment. For example, a 1904 Edward Steichen photo of a moonlit pond went for $2,928,000 at Sotheby's in New York back in February 2006. Two other images, both by photographer Alfred Stieglitz, one, a portrait of Georgia O'Keefe called "Nude," sold for $1,360,000. The other, also of O'Keefe called "Hands," sold for $1,470,000. Both prints are from 1919. Who would have known back then, right? From an investment perspective, buying artwork from unknown artists is almost like buying a penny stock, the chances of cashing in on a high return are stacked against you, which is why buying a basket, diversifying is advisable. Buying artwork from unknown artists is far better! Where penny stocks and artwork may never become truly valuable. Framing and displaying worthless stock certificates hardly makes for a meaningful happy environment. But a variety of artworks, will always bring enjoyment, contemplation.. Because from within the four walls of an image, something speaks out to you, acts like a mirror, reflecting a part of your soul and spirit, known or something new. You buy photographs to display, admire, enjoy, inspire. Purchasing prints can easily
